About Me

 I, Sunil Kumar Puri, a qualified Textile Technologist with B. Text in Textile Technology with Specialization in Spinning, and M. Sc in Total Quality Management and an awardee of Fellowship by The Textile Institute Manchester, for my extensive work, research, and contribution in the field of Flat Bed Knitting and Fully Fashioned Garment Manufacturing. Fellowship (C Text FTI) is awarded to someone with a high level of knowledge and specialism, who has achieved a major personal creative contribution to the respective industry.

I wrote an article “The Sweater Geometry” the article was published in many magazines but most importantly in The Knitting International published in the UK as well as was posted on a web portal The Knitting Industry. In 2017, I was informed by the promoter of the web portal that the article had more than ten thousand hits which was very surprising to him as most articles according to him get hits in hundreds.

I Worked extensively on ways to create these patterns so that anyone after reading the procedure can make a well-fitting flat knit garment. I worked to define the ways on how to make these patterns and documented these procedures in a precise way. While working on these, I was invited by The Woolmark Company to write a training manual for them on how to make a woolen fully fashioned sweater and signed the agreement for writing it in October 2014.

Many knitting companies make very nice flat knit garments and have their own set of patterns and size sets which they have developed with years of experience and have kept these as closely guarded secrets. Where as there as thousands of books written on Pattern Making for every kind of garment surprisingly, there was no book available to explain the procedure of how to create these patterns.

To fill this gap I wrote a book on Fully Fashioned sweater manufacturing which is published by the Woodhead Publishing India Pvt. Ltd., and is available in almost all countries in the world. The book also explains how to create knitting Data Charts from patterns, as well as how to determine the right cover factor, the hand-feel and how to calibrate the knitting machine be it a hand Flat of a computer controlled knitting machine.

I have also made software for making Fully Fashioned Sweater Knitting Data which is running in companies India Nepal and Bangladesh China, Italy And USA.  

Currently I work as a consultant to Knitwear companies for Product Development, Total Quality Management, and Training of Personnel.
